Lay minister and Head Dishwasher at Bluefield State College, rev. R..L Pollard recorded this for Reece in 1950. Rev. Pollard said his mother attended a public execution at Salem, Virginia in 1878 of a man named Charlie Watkins for the murder of his wife. Before he was hanged, Watkins sang this to the crown and Pollard's mother committed it to memory. We've never heard a mix of doubt, faith, resignation and terror in a song before
Cerebral palsy curbed his ability to play guitar the conventional way, so Nagoda learned double slide, this is his debut LP.
